During Chinese President Xi Jinping's visit to Thailand and his attendance at the 29th APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting on November 19, Wang Wentao, Minister of Commerce of China, and Jurin Laksanawisit, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Commerce of Thailand, signed the Memorandum of Understanding on E-commerce Cooperation Between the Ministry of Commerce of the People's Republic of China and the Ministry of Commerce of the Kingdom of Thailand (the MoU) in Bangkok, Thailand.
According to the MoU, the two parties will establish an e-commerce cooperation mechanism to promote trade in high-quality products, enhance cooperation in areas such as logistics, delivery and e-payment, and cooperate on joint research and capacity-building. This will help foster an enabling environment for the development of e-commerce between the two countries and expand new channels for bilateral trade and economic cooperation.
As of today, China has established bilateral e-commerce cooperation mechanisms with 27 countries including Thailand. Under the mechanisms, pragmatic cooperation has been carried out in areas such as policy communication, industrial complementarity, capacity building and local cooperation, with a view to forging an open, inclusive and mutually beneficial Silk Road e-commerce partnership.
