In the middle of the golden coast, to the boundless East China Sea perches Xiangshan, an ancient county boasting a history of thousands of years. It is also located at the south of the economically prosperous Yangtze River Delta.
Xiangshan, under the jurisdiction of Ningbo, Zhejiang, is adjacent to Shanghai, Hangzhou and Wenzhou, with three orientations surrounded by sea and the other to the inland. It enjoys great reputations across the country, such as “Maritime County”, “Tourist County”, “Architecture County” and “Culture County”. With a population of 530,000, Xiangshan occupies a land area of 1,175 km2, and a sea area of 6,618 km2. In 2009, it achieved a GDP of RMB 23.71 bilion Yuan, and a total fiscal income of RMB 3 billion Yuan.
As the famous “Maritime County” in East Zhejiang, Xiangshan is blessed with a long coastline of up to 800 km, with enormous marine resources. With 608 islands and reefs of various sizes spreading all over and thousands of ports and gulfs scattering like shining stars, Xiangshan is reputed as “a fairytale paradise with surrounding seas and mountains, a beautiful picture of a variety of sceneries”. To assist the development of “Ningbo-Zhoushan Port”, Xiangshan port has been listed in the 11th Five-Year Opening-up Plan of the nation.
Xiangshan belongs to subtropical monsoon humid climate with four distinct seasons and mild climate. Its average annual temperature is 16.3°C with average annual rainfall of 1360mm and average annual humidity of 58.3%. It is a large natural Oxygen bar with its forest coverage of more than 50%, as many as 14700 negative oxygen ions per cm3and national first class air quality all the year round. The habitation environment here can well rival with the best health resorts such as Florida, the Gulf of Mexico and Hawaii. Xiangshan has also been listed in national ecology demonstration city/county/district, and is now striving to be a new, modernized, ecological coastal tourist city, and to be a city with the best habitat environment. The construction of Xiangshan Port Bridge, which connects with the longest cross-sea bridge Hangzhou Bay Bridge in the north and with Sanmenwan Bridge in the south, has been launched on December 2008, and will be completed in 2011. After its completion, the Tongjiang-Sanya coastal double-tracked freeway, which strings “Shanghai—Ningbo—Taizhou—Wenzhou”, will run through Xiangshan from north to south, and will usher Xiangshan in the transportation circle of “Thirty minutes from Ningbo; two hours from Hangzhou and Wenzhou; two and a half hours from Shanghai”, which will bring new opportunities and energy to the port-neighboring economy of Xiangshan.
Xiangshan also has great sea transportation potential. For river transportation, cargos in Xiangshan can be delivered directly to any important port of China; for sea transportation, neighboring the second largest port in China—Beilun Port, Xiangshan has direct sea navigation with 519 ports in more than 100 countries and regions such as Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Australia, etc.; it’s just 1 hour’s drive away from Ningbo International Airport; it can reach the national railway network through Xiaoshan-Ningbo double-tracked railway and Ningbo-Wenzhou railway, which is under construction.

Focus on regional investment
Xiangshan Economic Development Zone
Xiangshan Economic Development Zone is a provincial economic development zone approved in 1994. The planned area of the economic development zone is 20km2, among which 5km2 has been completed in the Phase I project. Investment in infrastructure accumulated has exceeded RMB 1,000,000,000 Yuan. The economic zone, with industries such as machine model, automobile parts, knitting and clothing, electronics and appliance, aquatic product processing, cultural & sports and household products and so on as its main fields, has taken on export oriented industrial setup. Phase III of the development zone---Binhai Industrial Park, which was launched all round in 2005, is the function zone of Damuwan new tourist city of Xiangshan. This park has a planned land of 5 km2, and a simplified approval procedure, in which, settlement projects can be launched on the spot.
Science & Technology Park
The plot of Science & Technology Park of Xiangshan Economic Development Zone is under the jurisdiction of the provincial Xiangshan Economic Development Zone. The Park lies in the north of Shipu Town, and is about 20km away from downtown Xiangshan and about 10km away from downtown Shipu. With Changguo Standard Sea Wall in the north, the south coastline in the west, the planned east-west road in the south and the planned north-south road in the east, the base has a total planned land area of 249.89 hectares, among which 145.55 hectares are used for industrial land, 7.39 hectares for public facilities, 28.70 hectares for roads, 29.74 hectares for grass land, and 1.32 hectares for municipal public facilities. And the layout of the whole Park is: “String the factories in two lines, a variety of patches comprise the Park”.
The Science & Technology Park aims to be an ecological, scientific & technical, environmental science & technology Park with its own characteristics, to be the main field of a new round of development of industrial economy in southern Xiangshan, and to be the economic growth point of Shipu Science & Technology Park.
Xiangshan Industrial Zone
Xiangshan Damuwan Xincheng
Damuwan perches in the central position of the a hundred li golden coastline of Xiangshan, and is adjacent to the national “AAAA” tourist scenic spot Songlan Mountain. It has a total area of 14.3km2 with Damu Sea in the east. It boasts the best leisure and tourist resources in Yangtze River Delta, such as hilly area, bay, beach and downtown area, etc. Xiangshan Damuwan Xincheng will fully avail itself of the unique advantage of abundant resources to build a new modernized tourist and leisure town: “Yangtze River Delta ocean amusement center, Grand Ningbo coastal new leisure town, core leisure representative area in Xiangshan”, which integrates seascapes, sea sports, health care center and amusement experience.
