Jiangbei is the largest central district located in the northwest of Ningbo City. With an area of 208sq.km, the district consists of one town and seven streets, and has a population of 230,000. The long history in Jiangbei not only witnesses the change of Ningbo from ferry to estuary to port, reserves Jiangnan water village’s customs, simple and industrious, builds up confusion and business culture in Cicheng, and also constructs a glorious Jiangbei district.
Jiangbei District has profound historical and cultural heritage and owns rich humanities and cultural resources. There is a saying to describe it, “if you want to see one-thousand-year-old Ningbo, you should see Cicheng town; if you want to see one- hundred-year-old Ningbo, you should see the Bund; if you want to see contemporary Ningbo, you should see the three rivers”.
Cicheng is such rich land that has produced abundant of scholars and celebrities over the history endlessly. From the Tang Dynasty to the Qing Dynasty, this district nourished 519 imperial scholars. In the modern history Cicheng also boasted a large number of famous scholars, including Mr. Qin Runqing, a banking mogul; Mr. He Yujie, a physical scientist; Mr. Zhou Xinfang, Beijing opera master artist; Mr. Tan Jiazhen, a geneticist; Mr. Feng Jicai, a writer. Jiangbei district is the first and only district which has won the title of “China Filial Piety Hometown”. In 2009, Cicheng ancient buildings are honored with "Protection of Cultural Heritage Award" from the United Nations and Cicheng ancient town is protected on the highest level as cultural heritage in Ningbo City.
Jiangbei has the oldest Bund buildings of China, the best preserved and oldest wooden structure building in the south of Yangtze River --- Baoguo Temple, the Ningbo Grand Theater, City Exhibition Hall and Ningbo Museum of Art. As the construction of the Olympic Sports Center and Ningbo Jiangbei Cultural Center are to begin, there will be more facilities for Jiangbei to create an open and dynamic Cultural District.
The geographic position of Jiangbei is superior and its traffic conditions are well developed. The expressway to Hangzhou Bay Bridge and the High Speed Ring interchange in Jiangbei. And the Hangzhou-Ningbo Expressway, the Ningbo-Jin expressway and the Yong-Tai-Wen Expressway connect Jiangbei with its neighboring cities and towns. It only takes 30 minute to drive up to Beilun Port from Jiangbei and 15 minutes to Ningbo Lishe International Airport. The planning urban rail transport network will set up several stations in Jiangbei as planned.
With the opening of Hangzhou Bay Bridge, Jiangbei turns over a new leaf of its history. As an important gateway “connecting Shanghai and entering into Yangtze River Delta”, a junction connecting Yuyao and Cixi areas and important connection point supporting Ningbo Port and Bridge Economy, it is considered to be the north gate of Ningbo so its significance is increasingly valued. Jiangbei is the integration gateway between Ningbo and Shanghai, and has witnessed the changes in the port city of Ningbo. Its unique geographical advantages, excellent infrastructure, abundant land resources and a sound service system have been strongly advanced the region's GDP annual growth, per capita GDP breaking 10,000 U.S. dollars. The three major industries continue to optimize the industrial structure featuring the urban industry, modern service industry and recreational eco-tourism. Jiangbei makes advantages fully of its waterfront condition, ports and bridges to construct four industrial bases for non-ferrous metal processing, equipment manufacturing, special vehicles and auto parts &instruments, as well as five service industry clusters, shipping & logistics, business & commerce, entertainment & catering, vehicle sales and innovative culture.
Jiangbei’s role as whole in Ningbo is a modern equipment manufacturing base, so it has generally formed a harmony and complementary industry structure featuring metal processing industry, modern equipment manufacturing and traditional industries. There have been developed 3 major industry zones including Investment Pioneering Center, Urban Industrial Functional Areas and Jiangbei Industrial Park. There are the largest water meter production base of China, C.S.I.diesel engine production base and steel sensor production bases in Jiangbei.
Jiangbei has 40 high-tech enterprises at all levels, 49 enterprise-owned technology R & D institutions, including 13 certified provincial and municipal engineering and technical centers, so a technological innovation system in which enterprises play main role is taking shape. Technology Innovation The "134 Creative Valley" in Investment Pioneering Center is well-known in Ningbo, and creative industry cluster effect gradually appears and it is the first IT service outsourcing company cluster base in Jiangbei.
Bridge and Port economic development linkage is a major feature of Ningbo. Ningbo owns the best deep-water harbor---Beilun port which is the ideal radiation distribution center for ocean shipping from China's coastal areas to the Americas, Oceania and the world. Over 600 ports of over 100 countries and regions have been covered by the destinations of Ningbo port. The completion of Hangzhou Bay Bridge has promoted a new leap forward in Ningbo's economy. 1、Key Waterfront Front Area
The Key Waterfront Front Area is a landmark to improve the function of Central Business District of Ningbo (CBD) and create a waterfront city image of Ningbo. It includes business, commerce, housing, culture, tourism and entertainment complex functions, highlighting riverside urban landscape and activities. As planned, it consists of "one heart, one axis and four areas". With the extension to the old Bund and the Daqing North Road, the construction of this area will move on. At present, the Old Bund extension, the People Road block and the BaojiaCao block are available resources for development.
2、Wantou Recreational Business District
Wantou Recreational Business District (Wantou RBD) is located north of Ningbo Sanjiangkou, 3 km away. With a planning area of 2.97 square kilometers and with a total planned construction area of 1.9 million square meters, the region is surrounded by 4.5 kilometer river bank featuring rare natural scenery and good location.
According to the overall city planning and based on Wantou RBD's unique natural conditions and good location, Wantou RBD is to be designed into a city RBD of a highest level involving with business, tourism, entertainment, shopping, fitness and residential complex features, with the green as background and water as keynote. It includes 9 theme islands which are connected with the roads and separated by water. There will be a 100,000 sq. meters central lake. Therefore its design has a good name "Nine Island one heart”.
The region will have a Wetland Park, city parks, pedestrian plazas, museums, shopping malls, historical style and features built-up areas, culture and entertainment area, water sports center, landscape residential and other functions as well as various municipal facilities.
3、New Administrative Service Center Area
New Administrative Service Center Area is located in Middle West of Jiangbei, 6-km straight-line distance away from the SanJiangkou, connected to the city center through the Jiangbei Avenue and Airport Express line. With the Ningbo City transportation network construction developed in full swing and development extension in Jiangbei District step by step, it will be the core block into the future of Jiangbei District.
New Administrative Service Center Area is on the north shore of Yao River, overseeing the riverside green spaces and vast resources of water featured splendid natural scenery. Within this area, there are Jiangbei Wanda Plaza, Jiangbei Cultural Center and the planned Ningbo Olympic Sports Center. It integrates complex urban functions and includes high-quality executive offices, commerce & business, residence, cultural, leisure and sports features.
4、North Gateway Business District of Ningbo
North Gateway Business District of Ningbo covers a planning area of 1.5 square kilometers and the development planning area for this phase is 1.1 square kilometers. The District is planned to be cluster district mainly for headquarters-base small and medium private enterprises, and meanwhile commercial offices and feature exhibition centers. It will include various industries. The North Gateway Business District will be built into a first-class brand gateway and a landmark of the city.
The construction of the North Gateway Business District of Ningbo is designed to attract private enterprises headquarters to settle down here, to promote the upgrading and the development of corporate headquarters, to gather the private headquarters to make development and to develop distinctive exhibition business functions.
To highlight the identification and the relative independence of enterprises, the North Gateway Business District of Ningbo is divided into the following eight functional blocks: Separate Headquarters, Business Facilities, Headquarter Rubik’s Cube, Wisdom Cool Valley, Concept Office, Creative Workshop, life supporting and reserved blocks for future development.
5、New Cicheng Town
New Cicheng Town is listed as a key project in Zhejiang Province. With planning areas of 5.2 square kilometers, it is located south of the Cijiang Rive and on Guangshanghe river, echoing with the Ancient Cicheng. Cicheng District can accommodate 45000 people as planned. The main function of New Cicheng Town will be high-quality residence, involving cultural industries, business office, vacation & leisure, entertainment & tourism, retail sales, administrative services and business parks. New Cicheng Town is to be a model among China's small cities and towns.
New Cicheng Tow is considered to be a living room to receive business guests from Shanghai and also a gateway to Ningbo; it is also the hub between the Yuci region and the city of Ningbo. New Cicheng Town as a multi-purpose sub-center will develop into a livable and flourishing satellite city of Ningbo.
